God in His infinite wisdom called our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Almeda Burrow Boone from labor to reward on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013. Almeda was the youngest child of the late Gene and Lizzie Burrow. She was predeceased by: her husband, John Harrison Boone Sr.; her son, Glenn Boone; three brothers, James Burrow, Clayborne Burrow and Kenny Burrow; and two sisters, Dora Mae Harrison and Louise Melton.

At an early age, Almeda confessed her belief in Christ and joined the New Hope Baptist Church, Waverly, Va. She retired after 24 years of service from Sussex County Public Schools.

Almeda loved her family and cooking. The family especially enjoyed her rolls which she prepared on special occasions just for their enjoyment and she loved doing her puzzles.

She was truly committed to taking good care of her grandchildren as she taught them so much about life. They loved her so very much and they will miss her dearly. She was a supporter to all who needed her and she touched the hearts of everyone who entered her life.

She leaves to cherish her memory: four sons, John H. Jr. (Ellen), Melvin of Waverly, Clinton of Petersburg and Wallace of Stony Creek; six daughters, Doris (David) of Chesterfield, Eartha (Michael) of Richmond, Grace, Janet, Phyllis and Karen, of Stony Creek, Va.; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sally Burrow and Jennie Jones; two sisters-in-law, Catherine Greene and Mertie Moore; a host of devoted cousins other relatives; and friends. A special thanks to the staff at Southside Regional Medical Center ICU, Petersburg.

A funeral service for Mrs. Boone will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at New Hope Baptist Church, Sussex, where the Rev. Harold Cason is pastor and the Rev. Linwood James Sr. is officiating. The interment is to follow in the church Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to assemble at 12124 Flowers Road to proceed to church at 10 a.m. the day of service.

Professional services have been entrusted to the staff at Jones-Peace Funeral Service, 13013 Park Ave., Stony Creek. Family may be contacted by phone at 804-986-0299.
