God called upon one of his angels Mrs. Annie Pearl Johnson Cooke, affectionately known as "Chick-Chick," "Sweet Pea," or just "Love," of 322 Irving St., Petersburg, on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg.

She was born on Dec. 19, 1933, in Petersburg, to the late Adam Johnson and Montee Allen and raised by the late, Christine Jackson. Annie attended Petersburg public schools system. She was employed at Titmus Optical for numerous years, before going to Southside Virginia Training Center where she retired in 1993 after 17 years of outstanding service.
She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at Royal Baptist Church, Petersburg, and most of her adult life, she was a member of Gillfield Baptist Church, Petersburg.
Annie enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening, sitting in the window watching and feeding the birds, raising children, smiling, and most of all she loved her dogs, feeding stray cats, and music.
She was also preceded in death by: her husband, Robert L. Cooke Sr.; two sons, Calvin E. "Speedy" Cooke, and Marvin Allen "Fry" Cooke; and a stepbrother, Bill McKey.
Chick-Chick was a fun loving caring person, if she could give you her heart she would. She was the mother and father of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Chick-Chick was known to give you her last dollar, if you needed a friend she would lend a listening ear, and whenever she spoke to you she greeted you with respect and kindness. Her favorite sayings were, "hey darling, love, or sugar".
Left to cherish her memories: her two sons, Robert L. Cooke Jr., and Ron Cooke, both of Petersburg; three daughters, Karon Cooke Robinson, and Tamika Cooke-Clanton (Jamar), both of Petersburg, and Yvonne Cooke Eason (devoted-Lemuel) of Dinwiddie; 16 grandchildren among them devoted, Marquis Cooke, D'Shay Cooke and Jaylen Clanton; 30 great-grandchildren, two devoted who she raised, Sakyra Pratcher and Antonio Pratcher Jr.; goddaughter, Tameka Blount; devoted friends, Mazie Blount, Ruby Epps, Carolyn Williams, Marion Jones, Jack Jones, R.J. Bragg, Margaret Odell Jones, Alice Graves, Wilbur Bonner and Walter Pettaway; and a host of other relatives; and friends.
A service of love and remembrance for Mrs. Annie J. Cooke will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, June 17, 2013, at the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, the Rev. Dr. Grady W. Powell, eulogist. The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
