Minister Annie Worrell Brown, daughter of the late Rev. Govan and Martha Elizabeth Worrell of Southampton County, Va., was born on Dec. 10, 1922. She passed away on May 16, 2014. Affectionately known as "Annie Laura," she was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

She was educated in a one-room schoolhouse in Newsome, Va., and continued her studies in business courses at Virginia State College (University). She worked in Food Services at Fort Lee Officer's Club, where she received honors from the generals and officers. Upon retiring from Fort Lee, she began to work in the adult day care industry.

She received her calling from God at an early age and was officially ordained as a minister by New Testament Bible School and Ministry in August of 2007. She loved studying the Word of God and wherever she ministered, she was known as the woman who sang, "I'm Gonna Stay under the Blood." She also enjoyed gardening and "sailin" (yard sales) with her sisters, Minister Evelyn Worrell and the late Minister Bernice Montgomery.

She was preceded in death by one son, Willie "Sunny" Blowe.

She is survived by four children, Herbert Vandolph Blowe Sr. (Teresa) of Petersburg Va., JoAnne Guion (Garland) and Noel Brown (Daphine), both of Raleigh, N.C., and April Brown of Petersburg, Va.; one sister, Minister Evelyn Worrell of Petersburg Va.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She has gracefully touched the lives of many and will truly be missed.

Services for Minister Annie Brown will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014, at the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Jeffrey L. Reaves Sr., pastor of Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Petersburg, eulogist. Interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral establishment.
