Arthur Green Obituary

Mr. Arthur Green Jr., 63, of Dinwiddie County, passed away at home on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, surrounded by his family following the courageous fight against cancer. Born in New Orleans, Arthur was the son of the late Arthur Green Sr. and Marie Turner. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Molly Hickman, Godfrey Blutcher and Cora Myers. Arthur proudly served in the United States Army for more than 25 years, including three tours in Vietnam. After a distinguished Army career and numerous oversees assignments he retired at Fort Lee, where his last assignment was as a petroleum instructor. He was an avid outdoorsman, a wonderful father and forever soldier.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 22 years, Lee Green; one son, Staff Sgt. Avery Green of the 82nd Airborne (currently stationed in Iraq); three daughters, Alana Smith, Adriana Green and Alyssa Green; two nieces he helped raise, Angelina Pierce and Tina Hickman; two special granddaughters, Aliyah Green and Sophia Pierce; two grandchildren from New Orleans, Terrione and Tevin Anderson; a great-grandson, Landon Anderson; many wonderful nieces and nephews across the country (and Sweden), his siblings from the New Orleans area, Rachel Videau, Joan Marie Coats, Okley Poole, Melvina Kelly, Jessie Jolla, Daniel Hickman, Arthur (Guy) Myers, Alan Myers and Nero Myers.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at the Memorial Chapel, Fort Lee, all are welcome. A visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at the chapel of William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home, Petersburg. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, P.O. Box 91840, Santa Barbara, California 93190 or www.curemeso.org where Arthur is listed on the Tribute Wall.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the staff of William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home, Petersburg.
