Mrs. Barbara G. Briggs, of 13152 Eugene's Lane, Stony Creek, Va., went to sleep and was lifted into heaven into the arms of our Christ Jesus on Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, at her home with her devoted husband, Ardie Briggs Sr., at her bedside.

Barbara was born July 28, 1950, Stony Creek, Va., to Milton and Christine Givens, who preceded her in death. Barbara was also preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn Minor; two nephews, Shawn Given and Germaine Givens; two brothers-in-law, George Williams and Ivory Briggs; and one sister-in-law, Lucinda Givens Bruce.
Barbara attended Central High School and graduated with the Class of 1970. She furthered her education as a nurse at Southside General Hospital, Emporia, Va. She was employed at Central State Hospital as a licensed practical nurse for 30 years before retiring.
Barbara enjoyed spending time with her family, her granddaughters, gardening, painting and home decorating.
Barbara confessed Christ Jesus as her Saviour at any early age and became a faithful member of the Hunting Quarters Baptist Church (HQBC). She was a diligent and active member of the HQBC Adult Choir, secretary of the Women's Ministry and she served on the Hospitality Ministry.
She leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted and dedicated husband of 40 years, Ardie Briggs Sr.; one son, Ardie Briggs III (Andrea) and two precious granddaughters, Ardra and Akira Christian, all of Hopewell; four brothers, Herman B. Givens of Washington, D.C., Deacon Francis Givens of Stony Creek, Ray D. Givens (Shirley) of Prince George and Melvin Givens of Hopewell; two sisters, Dora Williams (George) of Stony Creek and Faye G. Johnson of Petersburg; five sisters-in-law, Shirley Bailey and Linda Briggs, both of Stony Creek, Mary King of Petersburg, Mandy Briggs of Midlothian and Petulia Davis of Emporia; three brothers-in-law, James Briggs (Maureen) of Macon, Ga., Charles Briggs (Shelia) of Prince George and Tony Briggs (Shirley) of Duluth, Ga., and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, cousins and friends.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the staff of VCU Medical Center, Dr. Chafe, Hospice of Richmond and Medi-Home Health for their sincere care that was given.
Services for Mrs. Barbara G. Briggs will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, at Hunting Quarters Baptist Church, 16166 Hunting Quarters Church Road, Stony Creek, Va.; the Rev. Dr. C.W. Robb, pastor, eulogist, and the Rev. Joseph Williams officiating. Interment at the Fields/Briggs Family Cemetery.
