Bernice Blount Obituary

Deaconess Bernice Blount, 104, of Jonesboro, Ga., formerly of McKenney, slipped into eternal rest at the Arrowhead Health Care Center in Jonesboro on Oct. 29, 2010.

Deaconess Blount was born in Dinwiddie County on Jan. 29, 1906, to the late Lillie Lynch and the late Aaron Batts.

She started her adult life in Jamaica Queens, N.Y., where she worked as a beautician. She later moved to McKenney, where she and her husband, William Blount, joined the First Baptist Church Mckenney. Both were very active in the church for many years until their age and health prevented them from continuing their task. She later moved to Georgia to be with her granddaughter, Terri.

Deaconess Blount was predeceased by both parents as well as her husband, William; one son, William Blount Jr.; and her siblings, James, Taft, Aaron, Lynch, John E., DeLora and Gracelle.

Mrs. Blount had a loving spirit. She was an excellent caregiver for her siblings, Gracelle, Lynch, and DeLora, until their passing.

Left to cherish fond memories of Deaconess Blount are two grandchildren: Terri Blount and Michael Blount; three great-grandchildren; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church at noon on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010. The pastor, the Rev. Alvin J. Gurley, will deliver the eulogy. Family and friends are requested to assemble at the church at 11:30 a.m.

Arrangements were made by the W.L. Fields Funeral Home, 10814 Doyle Blvd., McKenney, 804-478-4811.
