Mrs. Bertha Louise Jefferson, 73, of 20302 Harris Drive, Sutherland, Va., departed this life on Sunday, April 27, 2014, at River View on the Appomattox Health & Rehab Center, Hopewell, Va.

Bertha was born on March 19, 1941, to Iva and Thomas Wilkins in Dinwiddie County, Va. She was a graduate of Southside High School in Dinwiddie, Va. She was employed at Seward Luggage Co. and Arnold Penn Co., both in Petersburg, Va. Bertha was known as a helping and caring person and she loves to cook. Bertha touched many lives during her times here on Earth.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Syndell Mason; son, Calvin Jefferson; parents, Iva and Thomas Wilkins; and two brothers, James Wilkins and Curtis Wilkins.
Bertha leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Gilbert Jefferson; children, Gilbert Jefferson Jr. (Brenda), Carolyn Jefferson, Warren Lee Jefferson, Curtis Jefferson and Betty Jean Fairley (Evander); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lillie Mae Hayes and Pecolia Thorpe; godchild, Derrickus Hayes; sister-in-law, Alma Wilkins; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services for Mrs. Bertha L. Jefferson will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014, at the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va.; Rev. Alveria Parrish, eulogist. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
