Bessie Thweatt Obituary

Mrs. Bessie Mae Rose Thweatt, 1007 Augusta Ave., Petersburg, Va., entered God's Garden Thursday evening, Dec. 3, 2009, at her residence.

Mrs. Thweatt was a native of Petersburg, Va., born Nov. 18, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Bertha Rose.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. (Jimmy) Thweatt; brother, Wilford Rose Sr.; nephew, Wilford Rose Jr.; and brother-in-law, the Rev. Curtis N. Mason.

Bessie was a 1954 graduate of Peabody High School, alumnae of Peabody High School National Alumni Association, Inc., and a member of the Floyd Street Neighborhood Watch Association.

Bessie faithfully followed Christ through her membership at Union Branch Baptist Church, Chesterfield, Va., where she was a dedicated member of the senior and nursing ministries. After graduation, she was employed with the cafeteria staff of Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company for many years and later with Defense General Supply Company of Richmond. She loved to read, travel, and cook for her family and friends.

Missing her smiling face will be her son, Kenneth L. Thweatt; her daughter, Kimberly L. Thweatt; sister, Joyce R. Mason; nephew, Major USMC Curtis A. "Tony" Mason (Violet); niece, Gloria R. Thomas; a godson, Heriberto Vazquez II; Johna R. Vazquez, who was like a daughter; great-nieces and nephews, Michael Rose, Sheila Kearney, Pamela Ridley, Hassan Mason, Kayle Mason, and Jaiden Mason; very devoted friends, Muriel Spratley, Joan Overton, Barbara Warren, and Grey Barrow; and many other friends, neighbors, and church members.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at Union Branch Baptist Church, 11521 River Road, Chesterfield, Va. The Rev. Dr. Gregory Howard, pastor, will officiate. Interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
