Elder Brenda Smith Kelley, 65, of West 27th Street, Richmond, departed this life on Monday, July 8, 2013, at her residence.

She was born Feb. 28, 1948, to Minnie Smith Young. She was educated in the New York and Petersburg Public School System. Elder Kelley was also known to many as the "Hat Lady," because she enjoyed designing hats in her spare time.
Ms. Kelley was a member of Cathedral Deliverance Ministries under the direction of Bishop Vincent Harris. She joined the church in June 2004, where she was ordained as an elder in August 2006, where she served on many ministries to include: the pastor's aide, Sunday school superintendent, altar worker and the leadership ministry.
Ms. Kelley leaves to cherish her memories: her four children, Iris "Toni" Evans (Tracy) of Ruther Glen, Angelia "Angie" Evans of Philadelphia, Deanna "DeeDee" Green (Lewis) of Fredericksburg, and Douglas "Man" Evans (Anitra) of Hopewell; seven grandchildren, Jamarr Evans, Anthony "T" Evans (Tacita), Carlos Evans (Alfreda), Alex Bonner, Lewis Avery Green Jr., Douglas Evans IV, and Jasmine Epps; four great-grandchildren, TeShawn Evans, Aaliyah Evans, Taniya Evans and Jurnee Evans; a brother, Johnnie C. Nance (Anna) of Yonkers, N.Y.; three sisters, Deborah Nance-Jackson of Yonkers, N.Y., Patricia Young of Bowie, Md., and Angel Young-Gill (Lenny) of Dinwiddie; extended family, Pearl and Levae Kelley; and a host of aunts; uncles; other relatives; and friends, among them Bishop LeVan Kelley, Bishop Vincent and Janet Harris and the Barbes family.
A funeral service for Elder Brenda Smith Kelley will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013, at the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Bishop Vincent Harris, eulogist.
