Ms. Brenda Joyce Booker Bohannon quietly departed her earthly existence on Thursday, June 26, 2018, at her home. Brenda was born on December 28, 1948, to James M. Booker, Sr. and Ella M. Pitt Booker. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and her youngest sister, Ruth E. Camm (Emmit).

Brenda leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Jonathan Andrew Booker Bohannon: her sister and brother, Patricia Booker (Qaadir Hasan) and James Booker, Jr. (Charleen); two aunts, LaVerne Hailstock and Valerie Harris; nieces, Amanda Miller (Antonio) and Nikkia Camm; nephews, Christopher Burnette and Dominique Camm; a host of great nieces and nephews and good friends. Brenda's caretakers were angels during her last few months. The family is grateful for their service.

Brenda graduated from Peabody High School (1966) and from Virginia State College where she majored in education. She worked in Washington, DC for the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW) and in Farmville, VA, as a teacher.

She served in the U.S. Army from August 1977 until June 1995, obtaining the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC). Brenda was deployed to many locations to include Desert Storm. After retiring from the military, Brenda entered the Troops to Teachers Program and returned to her favorite profession, teaching. She taught in the Petersburg Public School System ( Peabody Middle School) for 17 years.

Throughout her life, Brenda delighted in singing and harmonizing. Sometimes she celebrated Christmas from November until March. She loved working with children and feeding people. With an almost perfect memory, she enjoyed learning new things, politics, and debating trivia.

Brenda will live on in the hearts of those who knew her and were touched by her wit and wisdom.

A celebration of life will be held 2:00 P.M., Sunday, July 15, 2018 in the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA.
