Mr. Calvin Elroy Crawley, 53, of 39 Walnut Lane, Petersburg, was suddenly called home to be with the Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Aug. 1, 1958, to Doris Crawley. He attended Dinwiddie County Public Schools. At an early age, he confessed Christ at the Olive Branch Baptist Church, and most recently rededicated his life to the Lord this year on a joyous Sunday morning at OBBC surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Jackson; grandmother, India Jefferson; grandparents, Cleveland and Edith Jackson; uncles, Jessie Jefferson, Emett Jefferson and James Parham. "Elroy," as he was affectionately called, was a person who loved spending time with family and friends and simply enjoyed life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him dearly.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted mother, Doris Elizabeth Crawley; three children, Shantel (Eli) of Florida, Calvin Jr. of New Jersey and Durrell of Petersburg; two sisters, Doris and Tonia, both of Petersburg; two brothers, Clifton Crawley and Keith Jackson, both of Petersburg; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; four devoted aunts, Arlene Parham, Kate Robinson (Benjamin), Carrie Clay (William), Thelma White and Alma Blizzard; one niece, Dianco Williams (Arthur); and one nephew, Clifton Crawley Jr.; two great-nieces; two great-nephews; four great-aunts, Annie Lee Jefferson, Ellen McKensie, Janice Diggs and Alice Williams; great-uncles, Thomas Jefferson and Frank McKensie; godsisters, Delzoria Ellis and Marlo Perry; a host of cousins and friends.
Elroy was blessed with a very loving and devoted companion and caretaker in his life, Shelia Nelson; a special friend and family member, Dondre Smith; special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Preston and Darlene Thompson, Starchuna Thompson, LaTarsha Thompson, Henry Hawkins, Larry Bonner, Bill Burt, Abe's Auto family, Mr. and Mrs. William and Beatrice Ellis and family.

A celebration of life for Elory will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the Olive Branch Baptist Church, Dinwiddie, with the pastor, the Rev. Kevin M. Northam, officiating. Burial will commence at the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will assemble at the residence of his mother, Doris Crawley, 12 Flowers Circle, Petersburg, at 10 on the morning of the service for the procession.
