Catherine Daniel

Catherine Daniel, 90, of Hopewell, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2009. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Christopher Costello; sisters, May Coffey, Phyllis Byrne, Betty Pauley, Bridget Costello, Anne Walsh; brothers, Billy Costello, Mickey Costello; and grandson, Jason Phillip Daniel. Mrs. Daniel was a homemaker and a former employee of Allied Chemical. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church. Mrs. Daniel graduated from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, and was a member of TBPA, TOPS, swimming groups at the Hopewell Community Center and she was an avid knitter.

She is survived by her husband, Walter G. "Googie" Daniel; sons, Phillip Daniel, Christopher Daniel; daughters, Ruth Ann Buck, Bernadette Fischer, Patricia Copeland; 10 grandchildren, Katie Fischer, Annie Powell, Christopher Buck, Meghan Ornelas, Shane Copeland, Theresa Gamad, Janine Fischer, David Fischer, William Fischer, Kara Daniel; five great-grandchildren, Lilly Ornelas, Grace Ornelas, David Ornelas, Tyler Forti, Jasmine Gamad; sisters, Theresa Crimmins and Berna Beech.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 214 N. 6th Ave., Hopewell, VA. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at St. James Catholic Church, 510 W. Poythress St., Hopewell, Va. Interment is private.
