Our hearts were saddened by the sudden passing on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, of our loved one, Mr. Cecil B. Broom Jr., 35, of North Chesterfield, Va. Affectionately known as "CJ," Cecil was born on Dec. 16, 1977, in Reno, Nev.

He joined First Baptist Church Centralia at an early age and graduated from Thomas Dale High School in 1997. After graduation he served in the United States Marine Corps as a field radio operator at Camp Pendleton, Calif. Cecil worked for the past six years with Safety Railway Service in Hopewell, Va.
His favorite pastime was watching trains and he loved to talk about them. He was a diehard Oakland Raiders fan, and Cecil loved spending time with his family. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lazell Broom Sr. and Ruby Broom; two aunts, Ruby Mae Braden and Antionette Broom.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sandra Collier Broom; his loving parents, Cecil Sr. and Maxine Broom; a loving brother, Brian C. Broom (Adelle) of Hopewell, Va.; grandparents, Vernard T. and Emma Williams of Dinwiddie, Va.; three uncles, Lazell Broom Jr. (Gloria) of Prince George, Va., Vernard Lee Williams (Christine) of Dinwiddie, Va., Vincent Williams (Lois) of Upper Marlboro, Md.; five aunts, Lazetter Carter (Homer) of Chesapeake, Va., Thelma Thomas of Chester, Va., Carolyn Anderson (Norman) of Pittsburgh, Cynthia Jackson (Clifton) of Petersburg, Va., and Sonja Chambliss (Clarence) of Dinwiddie, Va.; five great-aunts, Annie Mae Williams of Dinwiddie, Va., Bernice Richardson of Petersburg, Va., Joyce Morgan of Dinwiddie, Va., Barbara Jones (Scott) of Disputanta, Va., and Marie Collins of Salisbury, N.C.; two great-uncles, James Russell Morgan (Barbara) of Dinwiddie, Va., and Floyd Morgan (Jeanette) of Buffalo, N.Y.; mother-in-law, Shirley Lloyd Collier of Chesterfield, Va.; brother-in-law, Andrew George Collier Jr. (Karen) of Colonial Heights; a very special little nephew, Miles Broom; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Services for Mr. Cecil B. Broom Jr. will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at First Baptist Church Centralia, 2920 Kingsdale Road, Richmond, Va.; the Rev. Dr. Wilson E. Shannon, pastor, eulogist. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
Honorary and active pallbearers are asked to assemble 10:30 a.m. at the church.
