Mr. Charles Garland Jones was born on March 17, 1928, in Bethlehem, Pa., to the late Linwood Jones and Mamie B. Jones.

Charles attended trade school at Virginia State College (now University) in 1940 and he also attended school in Richmond, Va. Charles married Zelma Pergerson Jones on Oct. 27, 1956, at Gillfield Baptist Church Parsonage. The marriage ceremony was performed by the Rev. Wyatt T. Walker. Charles and Zelma lived three years in Petersburg, Va., and moved to New York.

While in New York, Charles graduated from Cybic Designing Institute as a designer of men and women's clothing. Charles was well known for his designs, that he built a large cliental of famous personalities to include: James Brown and Count Basie to name a few. After 43 years, Charles and his wife decided to return back to Virginia to retire in the Chesterfield, Va., area in 2001.

Charles owned his own business in Petersburg, Va., on Sycamore Street. He later joined his daughter, Shela Damis and her husband, Joseph Damis in a business venture "Cha'Zel," which was known for the sale of imported custom shoes, perfumes and clothing.

He enjoyed his wife's cooking, football and spending time with his family and friends.

Charles leaves to mourn his loss his wife of 56 years, Zelma P. Jones of Virginia; four daughters, Shela Jackson-Damis (Joseph), Charlene Morton-Villedrouin and Lisa Blalock (John) all of New York and Wanda Taylor of Virginia; eight grandchildren, Dexter V. Jackson, Christopher Blalock, Ashley Damis, Sean Villedrouin, Alisa Blalock and Brandon Morton all of New York, Jalissa M. Taylor and Jessica N. Taylor all of Virginia; a brother, Dr. Linwood Jones II (Virginia G.) of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Laura Moore; three sisters-in-law, Mamie Taylor, Norma H. Pergerson and Florence Hancock (George); one dedicated nephew, Stephen Moore and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Charles was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend to all, he will truly be missed.

A funeral service for Mr. Charles G. Jones will be held at noon Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va., with the Rev. Dr. Grady W. Powell Sr., eulogist. The interment will be held at the Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, Va.
