Charlie Tucker Obituary

Mr. Charlie Tucker, 83, of 11003 Marguerita D. Ragsdale St., peacefully entered the gates of Heaven on Saturday morning, Dec. 5, 2009, after a period of declining health at his residence. He was born in Dinwiddie County on Sept. 19, 1926, to the late Richard "Dick" Tucker and Ida Coleman Tucker Goodwyn, and also the stepson of the late Paul E. Goodwyn. He was widower of the late Dorothy Scott Tucker. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Big Bethel Baptist Church, Mckenney.

Mr. Tucker was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II. He worked in construction until July 1964 when he was seriously injured on the job. Despite his physical disabilities he still managed to overcome them and remained active, gardening, cutting grass and hunting. He was a co-founder of the Eastside Hunting Club, Mckenney. During his youth he enjoyed the game of baseball and was an avid baseball fan, a strong supporter of the Mckenney Bucks Baseball Team. Mr. Tucker was preceded in death by a daughter, Myrna T. Lipsey, a brother, John Tucker, two sisters, Etta Peterson and Hattie Williams, and a granddaughter, Carmen R. Tucker.

He leaves to cherish loving and precious memories, five children, Carol T. Jones (Theodore) of Mckenney, Charles "Billy" Tucker (Carol) of Chesterfield, Wilbur "Stroker" Tucker (Frances) of Mckenney, Patricia T. Batts (William) of New Haven, Conn., and Bernice Tucker of the home; a brother, James Goodwyn (Clareace) of Mckenney; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Willie Lipsey of Charleston S.C.; a brother-in-law, Albert Scott of Homestead Pa.; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends, among them extended family member, Mary N. Alsbrook of Mckenney.

Funeral services will be held 12 noon Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at the Big Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Alexander Williams, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and family at the residence and can be contacted at 478-4198. The body may be viewed on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at the funeral home. Bernice & Family,
Weeping may endure for a night but joy comest in the morning. Truly you all were blessed to have had your father for three scores and ten plus some. I know you will miss him but the memories in your heart will linger a lifetime. Be blessed and surely god will take care of you all.
