On Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010 our sweetheart traded in her cross to receive her crown.
The Rev. Cora Lee Hatch Hines was born on April 11, 1926, in Sussex, Va., to the late James A. Hatch Sr. and Cora Price Hatch.
She was educated in the Southampton County School system. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Morning Star Baptist Church, Capron, Va. On Oct. 15, 1949, she was joined together in holy matrimony to the late John S. Hines (Kitty John). Once married, she relocated to Sussex County and became a watch care member of Hickory Hill Baptist Church, Yale, Va.
She was preceded in death by one son, John T. Hines; four sisters, four brothers, and one nephew whom she reared, Mouncie E. Hatch.
The Rev. Cora Lee Hatch Hines was a warm spirit, deeply rooted in God. She was loved and adored by all who crossed her path. She will be remembered for her love of gardening, cooking, sewing and singing her Master's praises.
Left to cherish these sweet memories are one son, Tech. Sgt. (Ret.) Lawrence C. Hatch of Tucson, Ariz.; three daughters, Lois H. Green of Baltimore, Md., Gertrude Lewis Zinnerman of Richmond, Va., and Viola M. Hines of Yale, Va.; one grandson, Lawrence A. Hatch of Georgia; seven granddaughters, Samartha H. Phifer and Sophia M. Green, both of Baltimore, Md., Brandy Hatch of Georgia, Tanya R. Hatch of Tucson, Ariz., Katrina Hatch of New Bern, N.C., Somerbreze M. Hall, of Yale, Va., and Shereé M. Lewis, of Richmond, Va.; four extended-granddaughters, Tynetta Magruder of New Jersey, Karen S. Dennis of Hopewell, Va., Letetia R. Mason of Stony Creek, Va., and Monique D. Rose of Yale, Va.; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, the Rev. Sarah H. Gholson; three brothers, Samuel Hatch (Mary), the Rev. William I. Hatch (Mae) and Louis P. Hatch (the Rev. Ruth) all of Richmond, Va.; devoted friends, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Murphy, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Young and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Jones; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, others relatives and friends.
A musical celebration and homegoing service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at the Morning Star Baptist Church, 14502 Rivers Mill Road, Capron, Va., with the Rev. Earl Thompson, pastor, officiating. Interment to follow in the Hickory Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Yale, Va.
