Dale Lasiter Obituary

Dale Henderson Lasiter, age 77, of Chester, Va., passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at McGuire Veterans Hospital (Hospice unit). He was born in Ardmore, Okla., on Feb. 24, 1932, to the late Effie Gee and Leslie Henderson Lasiter. His wife, Lucy Pinkleton Lasiter and brother, Ernie Ray Lasiter, also preceded him in death.

Dale is survived by his children, Yvonne Wickwire Rasnick (Glen) of Chester, John Wickwire of Dinwiddie, Va., and Karen Pletcher and Marla Gore of Ardmore; sister, Leslie Ann Lavers (Dennis); stepmother, Ruth Lasiter of Ardmore; grandchildren, Scott Lawson, Sharla McMillin, Amy Pickelsimer, Dustin Bailey, Paul Rasnick and Lance Corporal Jennifer Wickwire; five great-grandchildren, Airman First Class Kayla Williams, Presley Combes, Destin Bailey, Layne Kinsey and Kerha Lawson; devoted niece, Susan Heatherly; and several other nieces and nephews.

On June 13, 1973, Mr. Lasiter retired from the United States Army at the rank of Sergeant First Class after having served 22 years on active duty. The majority of his career he served as an LPN with assignments that included a tour of duty in the Korean War and the Republic of Vietnam. Mr. Lasiter also served in California, Germany, Walter Reed Hospital and Fort Lee, Va. He earned a Bronze Star of Honor for his bravery during his assignment in Vietnam. Following retirement from active duty, Mr. Lasiter remained in the Fort Lee area and was employed for a period of time at Southside Regional Hospital and as the housing inspector for the City of Hopewell and the State of VA. Mr. Lasiter retired from the State of VA on Feb. 28, 1994, where he earned several awards for distinguished service. Mr. Lasiter was a former member of Liberty Baptist Church and a current member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at the Chesterfield chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Pat Fiordelise officiating. Interment will follow at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens, Prince George, Va., with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J.
