Daphne Andrews Obituary

Daphne Pate Andrews, 88, passed away Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at Dunlop House in Colonial Heights, Va.

She was the daughter of the late Rennie and Gertrude Smith. She was a member of Highland United Methodist Church and a graduate of Petersburg High School. Daphne loved life's simple pleasures, especially her husband of 58 years, her children, grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Daphne was preceded in death by her loving husband, Erin Webster Andrews, and her brother, Emmett Mosley Pate.

She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Keith Erin Andrews and his wife, Sarajayne, Donna Andrews Eure and her husband, Raeford, and Sharon Andrews McClellan and her husband, Jay. Left also with the beautiful memory of their grandmother are five grandchildren, Erin Teale Simmons, A. Leland Simmons Jr. and his wife, Maggie, of Virginia Beach, Joy Erin Andrews of Columbus, Ga., Courtney Dodge McClellan, Whitney Andrews McClellan, both of Prince George; her great-grandchild, Cameron Webster Simmons of Virginia Beach; and her nephew, Emmett Mosely Pate Jr., also of Virginia Beach.

The family would like to acknowledge with great appreciation the love and care given by her best friends, Ann T. Parrish and Arline S. McClellan, during this difficult journey with Alzheimer's. We also will be forever grateful to the dedicated nurses and staff at Dunlop House, who made her stay as enriching and comfortable as possible.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, Va. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Highland United Methodist Church, 125 E. Westover Ave., Colonial Heights, VA 23834, or Hospice Of Virginia, 7231 Forest Ave., Suite 100, Richmond, VA 23226. Donations may also be made by check or online to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation, One Intrepid Square, 46th Street and 12th Avenue, New York, NY 10036.
