Delores Y. Johnson

Delores Yvonne Johnson, affectionately known as "Bonnie," of 913 Weaver Ave., Petersburg, Va., entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at the Golden Living Center, Battlefield Park. She was born Dec. 29, 1949, in Petersburg, Va. She was the daughter of the late Richard McKay Johnson Jr. and Bertha Johnson Battle.

Delores was a member of the Mount Poole Baptist Church, Ford, Va. She was a graduate of Peabody High School and attended Virginia State University College (now University), majoring in biology. Delores was preceded in death by her oldest brother, Richard M. Johnson III, in February 2009.

She leaves to cherish her memories a loving and devoted mother, Bertha L. Johnson Battle of Petesburg; two brothers, James G. Battle (Felita) of Richmond, Larry A. Battle (Cheryl) of Petersburg; two sisters, Carolyn J. Burwell and Carmen C. Jackson, both of Petersburg; four aunts, Grosalean H. Talley, Edmonia H. Lewis, both of Petersburg, Bessie Johnson and Faustina Johnson, both of Birmingham, Ala.; one uncle, Walter Hill of Ford; loving nieces, Dr. Sheilandice Holmes of Petersburg, Camille Royal (the Rev. Keith), April Brown, Requita Williams of Petersburg, Taylor Battle of Richmond, Awnya and Checora Battle of Petersburg; great-nieces, Asjah and Tiara Royal of Chester; great-nephews, Christopher and Justin Royal of Chesters; many cousins; devoted friends, among them devoted, Helen Diggs, Sydney Price, Marguerite Price and family of Petersburg, Bert Nichols of Ruther Glen, Va.

A funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, at the Petersburg Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home with the the Rev. Bernard Channey officiating. Burial will commence at the Mount Poole Baptist Church Cemetery, Ford, Va. Public viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
