Mrs. Delphine Marcella Johnson, 76, of 5012 Creek Road, Petersburg, Va., departed this life on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Retreat Doctor's Hospital in Richmond, Va.

Delphine was born on Aug. 24, 1936, to the late George and Cordelia Jones. She was proceeded in death by her late husband of 40 years of marriage, Thea Johnson; one brother, Frank Jones; four sisters, Cindy Booth, Shirley Massenburg, Helen Washington and Roberta Hicks.

On March 9, 1963, Delphine symbolized her dedication to Jehovah by water baptism and served as a faithful servant to her very end. Her faithful service allowed her to share freely with others. Her belief in Jehovah's promise of everlasting life in a paradise on Earth. Delphine knew and believed that if she fell asleep in death she would continue in Jehovah's memory.

For many years, Delphine worked as a head chef for Washington's Home for Adults. Later, she established her own business in home health care. Delphine had a passion for cooking and inviting family and friends over for gatherings. She enjoyed listening to and singing country music. She found pleasure in giving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren plenty of love and attention.

She leaves to cherish her memories: one very devoted daughter, Marcell Satterwhite, who so lovingly provided care for her mother and father to the very end; and a devoted son-in-law, Mark Satterwhite of Petersburg; three devoted grandchildren, Brandon Johnson, who was not only her grandson but her personal chauffeur, Jessica Rose (Kenneth) and Briana Satterwhite, all of Petersburg; one sister, Irene Johnson of Petersburg; one special niece, Jaunita Dickens (Spencer) of Dinwiddie; one brother-in-law, Earnest Johnson (Elise) of Dinwiddie; and one sister-in-law, Mary Jones of Dinwiddie; a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins, among them was one special niece, Detria Johnson of Petersburg; and a host of friends, among them was a special friend, Doris Hill, and a life-long friend, Barbara Griffin, and a very special person who was like a son to her, Darryl E. Hayes.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9 2013, at the Kingdon Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 575 Old Wagner Road, Petersburg. The family may be contacted a the home of Marcell Satterwhite, 804-732-9059.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to those who shared in her care at Southside Regional Medical Center and to Hospice of Virginia at Retreat Doctor's Hospital in Richmond.
