Mrs. Doris Marie Tucker, 77, of 17924 Fox Branch Road, Carson, Va., peacefully transitioned to everlasting rest early Sunday morning, March 17, 2013, at the Southside Regional Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 24, 1935, in Dinwiddie County, Va., to the late Alfreda Wilson James and the late Stilmer Wilson. Besides her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Levon Tucker, and a sister, Glovenia Embry.

At an early age, she confessed Christ as her personal Savior and became a member of the Little Zion Baptist Church, Carson, Va. Her commitment to God and her church remained faithful for many years. She was a proud member of the Usher Ministry and enjoyed serving the Lord and her church family in that capacity. Her loving presence will truly be missed in the Carson community, as well as within the Little Zion Baptist Church family. We are thankful to God for blessing our lives with the gift of a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Left to cherish her memory of warmth, love and laughter are her caring and devoted children, Sabrina Crocker (Wayne) of Petersburg, Alfreda Jackson (Reginald) of South Chesterfield, Annie Gail Crump (Alfred) of Charles City and Grace Wright (Daniel) of Colonial Heights; seven grandchildren, Reginald C. Jackson, Shannon N. Crocker, Angela R. Jackson, Andrea P. Crump, Courtney L. Crocker, Quinton L. Wright and Allyson M. Crump; a special godchild, Tonya S. Weaver and her daughter, Kaylyn M. Weaver; one great-grandson, Ryan L. Jackson; one brother, Overton Jones (Janette) of Dinwiddie; sisters-in-law, Bernice Tucker of Petersburg and Lucille Tucker of New York; brother-in-law, Spencer Dickens (Juanita) of Dinwiddie; several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, to include Rebecca Thorne, Doris Westbrook, Shirley Wynn, Vanessa "Diane" Clanton, Mahalia Moore, Henry and Broadis Parker, Benjamin and Katie Robinson; other caring neighbors, and supportive church family members who loved "Mrs. Doris" so dearly, too numerous to name.

A service celebrating the life of Mrs. Doris Tucker will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at the Little Zion Baptist Church, Carson, with the pastor, the Rev. D. Tyrone Brandon Sr., officiating. Burial will follow at the Whitmore Moss Family Cemetery, Carson, Va. The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Sabrina Crocker (Wayne), 101 South Plains, Petersburg, Va., and will assemble there on the day of the service at noon for the procession.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Joseph M. Johnson & Son Funeral Home, 530 S. Sycamore St., Petersburg, 804-863-4411.
