Dorothy Carter Obituary

Dorothy H. Carter, 87, of Petersburg, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at Southside Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Carter was a native of Dinwiddie County and was predeceased by her parents, Rosser Boswell and Maggie Sledd Hawks; and two sons, Gary L. and Thomas E. Carter.

She was a retired Civil Service employee of Fort Lee and a member of Gary's United Methodist Church since 1960.

She is survived by her son, David L. Warren Jr. and wife, Phyllis of Prince George; daughter, Peggy W. Akins and husband, Richard of Arcadia, Fla.; five grandchildren, Cheryl Akins, Robin Gutierrez, Michael Akins, Staci Warren and David Warren III; and six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Petersburg chapel of J.T, Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Southlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the following charities: Gary's United Methodist Church Building Fund, 13501 Sunnybrook Road, Petersburg, VA 23805; Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805; or your local Salvation Army. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

"Sonny"& Peggy and Families. Please accept my sincere condolences. I will never forget the times we had together. I know your(our) Mom will be missed by all who knew her. I wish I could be there but I can't. My thoughts are with you.
