Mr. Edwin H. Hunter, age 90, having resided in Fernandina Beach, Fla., passed away on Thursday morning, Sept. 30, 2010.
Born in Petersburg, Va., he was one of three children born to the late Jerman and Patricia Hunter. Growing up in Petersburg, Va., Mr. Hunter married Anne Seay in 1947.
They lived in Petersburg while Mr. Hunter worked in sales. In 1956 the Hunter family moved to the College Park area of Orlando, Fla., where Mr. Hunter worked in accounting with Winter Garden Citrus and Reynolds Metals.
In 1968 his family moved to Anna Maria Island, Fla., where he was a billing manager with Tropicana. He eventually became a licensed real estate broker with Holmes Beach Realty. Since 2000, he has lived in Fernandina Beach. An avid golfer, Mr. Hunter participated in Pro Am Tournaments and played with many friends throughout his life. He was a former member of the Church of the Annunciation Episcopal Church on Anna Maria Island and St. Michael's First Episcopal Church in Orlando, where he was a lay reader and vestry member.
Mr. Hunter had served in the U.S. Army as a first lieutenant.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Anne Seay Hunter, to whom he was married for 48 years, who passed in 1995. Also preceding his death were his brother, Jerman Hunter; his sister, Virginia Ryan; and his longtime friend and companion, Jean Gagner of Fernandina Beach.
Mr. Hunter leaves behind his children including Ed Hunter Jr. of Deer, Ark., Arthur S. "Bo" Hunter of Bradenton, Fla., Andrew Meade Hunter of Palatka, Fla., and Virginia (Missy) McCabe (husband Scott) Wexford, Pa.; and 10 grandchildren, including Andrew, Ian, Melissa, Joshua, Fraser, Justin, Ashley, Kelly, Peter, Hunter; and eight great-grandchildren.
At a later date Mr. Hunter will be laid to rest beside his wife Anne at the Church of the Annunciation, Anna Maria Island, Fla.
