Eleanor B. Holman, 89, of Hopewell, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2013, at her home. She was the daughter of the late John Wesley and Clara P. Brooks; and was also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse W. Holman; infant sister, Elizabeth Brooks; sister, Anna Katherine Miller.

Eleanor was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother and faithful caregiver for numerous family members. She was raised in Petersburg where she graduated from Carson High School. Eleanor assisted her husband Jesse in the construction of 85 homes in Hopewell throughout their marriage of 59 years. Blandford Methodist Church in Petersburg was her home church for many years. In her spare time, Eleanor loved to cross stitch creating many beautiful pictures which she displayed in her home. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and especially her grandchildren.
Mrs. Holman is survived by her two daughters, Jackie H. Marshall and husband, John W. Marshall Jr., Joan H. Price and husband, Anton W. Price; brother, Charles W. Brooks; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and her faithful caregiver, Ruby Couch. The family wishes to express special thanks to Odyssey Hospice for the excellent care given to Eleanor.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 11, 2013, at Appomattox Cemetery.
