Ellen Gill Obituary

Ellen Woolridge Gill, 86, of Hopewell, departed her life on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at her residence.

She was born in Roanoke, Va., and had been a resident of this area since 1934. Mrs. Gill retired from the Hopewell School System after 20 years of dedicated and faithful service. She was a member of GPGC Sorority and First Presbyterian Church. Ellen was the last of the Hopewell Six. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Ellen was preceded in death by husband, Roland B. Gill Jr.; her parents, Harold Holmes Sr. and Ella Flo Aiken Woolridge; brothers, Harold Jr., Jack and William Woolridge; and a sister; Betty Flo Wooldridge Rupard.

She is survived by two sons, Richard W. Gill and wife, Judy, of Virginia Beach, Robert B. Gill and wife, Susan, of Hopewell; four grandchildren, Kimberly Gill-Keating of San Francisco, Candice R. Gill of Chesterfield, Catherine D. Gill, Perrin C. Hedrick, both of Hopewell; sister, Margaret Dane Ross of Pittsburgh; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T.Morriss & Son Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Ronald K. Bullis officiating. Interment will be in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, Va. Contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1107 W. Broadway, Hopewell, VA 23860.
