Mrs. Emma Lee Parker, 76, of Waverly, Va., departed this life on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, after a short illness. She passed away peacefully at her home with two of her five daughters by her side. Emma was born on April 12, 1937 in Whitakers, N.C., to the late Mr. John Daniel and Mrs. Hannah Moore Burgess.

Emma was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Mr. Floyd Raymond Parker. She was a devoted wife, an exceptional mother, a loving daughter and a loyal friend. Mrs. Parker was a proud graduate of the Sussex County Training School class of 1955. Emma retired from Imperial Reading, Petersburg, Va., in 1998 to care for her husband and mother.

Those left to cherish her memory with great love are her five daughters, Joyce Brown, Jean Byrd (Bryan), Brenda Wilkerson (Curtis), Melissa Taylor (James) and Marcella Gildea (John); one stepson, Raymond Holsey (Carol); five grandchildren, Alfred Tucker Jr. (Courtney), Brandon Wilkerson (Shampagne), Christopher Wilkerson, Briana Wilkerson, Jayda Byrd; one ste grandchild, Patricia Holsey; five great-grandchildren, Colby, Cassidy, Essence, Cade and Brayden; niece and nephew in-laws, Ann Mason, Misclesar Mason (Donna) and Bernes Mason; two special cousins, Gloria Spencer and Mary Johnson: two devoted friends, Margie Claiborne and Annie Stewart; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at Lily of the Valley Deliverance Center, 411 Oak St., Waverly, Va. The remains will lie in repose at the Peace-Bland Funeral Home, located at 237 Railroad Ave., Waverly, Va., on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013. The family will also receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment to follow at the Waverly Cemetery.
