Emmett Smith Obituary

Mr. Emmett Walter Smith, age 85, of Colonial Heights, Va., entered into eternal rest on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2009.

He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army and retired from the Defense General Supply Center. Emmett was an avid outdoor sportsman enjoying many days of fishing and hunting. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. Emmett was a passionate caretaker for his wives and the elderly in his community. He worked untiringly to support Bethesda Baptist Church, a church he helped to build.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Cleola Tinsley Smith, his first wife, Irene B. Smith and stepson, Michael Smith.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Margaret J. Smith, Colonial Heights, Va.; son, Filmore W. Smith, Silver Spring, Md.; daughter, Loretha Taylor (Kenneth), Richmond, Va.; stepdaughter, Tina Morris (Richard); stepson, Russell Smith; daughter-in-law, Angela Smith; grandchildren, Dr. Teletia Taylor, Montrell Smith (Cristan), Sheera Smith, Kendall Smith, Darius Smith, Aaron Smith, Angelic Bethune, Spencer Bethune, and Shacora Tillery; one great grandchildren, Kendasia Smith; four sisters-in-law, Rachel Briggs (devoted), Carrie Flourney (devoted), Janet Berry (Richard), Paulette Jones (James); one brother-in-law, Luther Jones; a hosts of cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at Bethesda Baptist Church, 15800 Woods Edge Road, Colonial Heights, Va. Interment to follow at Mt. Minnis Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at the funeral establishment.

The family will also receive friends at the residence and may be contacted at (804) 530-2004.
