Eugene Boothe Obituary
Mr. Eugene Grover Boothe, known as "Gene, Grover, Pete, Uncle Peter, and Pops", of 377 Lyon Avenue, Newark, N.J., entered into eternal rest suddenly on Dec. 25, 2009, in Newark, N.J.
Eugene was the third of five siblings born March 1, 1943, to the late Earl Boothe and Amanda Boothe of McKenney, Va. At an early age, he accepted Christ and joined Eleven Oaks Baptist Church in McKenney, Va. He attended school in Dinwiddie County. His greatest passion was fishing. He also enjoyed cooking and sports. For years he was a member of the "Hookem Up Fishing Club" of N.J.
Eugene was employed with Soundshore Medical Center of New Rochelle, N.Y. for 47 years, where he recently retired, yet still continued to work until his death.
On June 17, 1989, Eugene was united in holy matrimony to Delores L. Howington Boothe. He was a loving husband, devoted father, son and brother.
He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Delores Boothe of Newark, N.J.; two daughters, Patricia Boothe and Eugenie Boothe, both of Jackson, Tenn.; two stepsons, Lee Tomlin of Ohio and Minister Carlton Howington (Shelia) of Sayreville, N.J.; six brothers, Earl of New Jersey, John (Margaret) of Mount Vernon, N.Y., Al (Marquette) of Petersburg, Va., Alvin of McKenney, Va., Ken and Tommy Doyle of Northern Virginia; one sister-in-law, Theresa of Whitakers, N.C.; three brothers-in-law, James (Hermite) of North Carolina, George (Margaret) of Maryland, and Larry (Helen) of Washington, D.C.; three aunts, Pinky Ragsdale of McKenney, Va., Marie Brown of Warfield, Va., and Margaret Ross of Florida. He was the proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren, Brittnay, Deandre, Aaliyah, Elizabeth, Hannah, Josha, Roshan, Shalise, Shante, Savon, Eboni and Alma; three great-grandchildren; two devoted friends, Eddie Best of McKenney, Va., and Bill Baird of Mount Vernon, N.Y., and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at Eleven Oaks Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Theodore Lundy officiating. Viewing will be from 12 noon until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Services are entrusted to the staff of Joseph M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home in McKenney, Va.
