Mr. Floyd Thorpe, 64, of 801 Chestnut St., Hopewell, departed this life Friday, May 16, 2014, at his residence.

Floyd attended the public school system of Church Road, Va. He was employed by Southern Construction for over 40 years.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Iva and Thomas Wilkins; paternal grandparents, Betty and Lucius Thorpe; father, Joe T. Thorpe; brother, Harvey L. Thorpe; sister, Thelma Thorpe; aunts, Bertha Jefferson and Annie Mae Ridley; uncle, Bernard Hayes; mother-in-law, Mary E. Hill, father-in-law, Lloyd Green Sr; sisters-in-law, Pauline Edmonds and Shelia Thorpe; brothers-in-law, Larry Green, Sherman Green and Charles Parrish, Harold Reid, Roosevelt Brown, Theodore White and Willie Winfield.

He leaves to cherish his memories: beautiful and loving mother, Marie Thorpe of Dinwiddie; devoted wife of 40 years, Essie Thorpe of Hopewell; three daughters, April Green of Petersburg, Teresa Green of Hopewell and Patricia Green (devoted caregiver) of Hopewell; two sons, Richard Green (Vanessa) of Hopewell and Lloyd Green (Rena) of Petersburg; eight sisters, Queen Brown, Betty Reid, Mary Winfield, Gloria Thorpe, Linda Coles (Robert), Cynthia Davis (Avron), Virginia Parrish and Celestine Thorpe, all of Dinwiddie; two brothers, Benjamin and James Thorpe of Petersburg; six sisters-in-law, Pearline Green (Kevin), Augusta McKeever (Alvin), Diane Hill, Ella Thorpe of Petersburg, Maxine Green and Mary Lou Green (George) of Dinwiddie; one brother-in-law, Lloyd "Toe" Green (fishing partner); five aunts, Lillie Hayes and Margaret Thorpe of Dinwiddie, Mattie Crump, Roxanne Thorpe and Lucille Thorpe, all of Petersburg; uncle, Gilbert Jefferson; host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, to include Debbie, Steve and Southern Construction family.

Celebration of life for Mr. Floyd Thorpe will be held 1 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2014, at the chapel of William N. Bland & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg; the Rev. Kevin Northam officiating. Interment will follow at Union Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, Prince George.
