... "Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint ..." Isaiah 40:30-31

With a renewed strength in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we continue to hold fast to God's promise of eternal life, as we humbly submit to His Divine will and release the precious soul of our dear son, father, grandfather, cousin and friend, our beloved Mr. Gary Douglas Trent Sr.

Gary was cute, cuddly, and adorable bouncing baby boy that was a precious gift from God and the sole offspring born to the union between the former Alma Boisseau Trent and the late Mavis H. ("Jimmy") Trent on Aug. 18, 1950. He was peacefully and serenely escorted by the angels to Heaven's gates on Thursday, May 2, 2013, from his residence that he shared with his loving mother at 4000 Thurston Road, Richmond, Va.

Gary received his formal education from the Chesterfield County Public Schools System and was a proud member of the George Washington Carver High School Class of 1968. Gary then embarked upon his civic commitment to serve his country as he enlisted into the United States Army. After two years of active duty, he received an honorable discharge. Gary continued to maintain exemplary work ethics as he was gainfully employed with the infamous Aunt Sarah's Pancake House and Defense General Supply Company (DGSC/Bellwood).

Gary was united in holy matrimony to the former Mary Smith. Their union was blessed with an adorable son, Gary Douglas Trent Jr. who is affectionately referred to by his endearing family as "Scooter."

Gary was a handsome and charismatic young man and a true blessing to his family. Although he endured physical challenges, he never complained about his condition and maintained a "happy-go-lucky" demeanor. He admired antique race cars and loved to spend time watching racing competitions. He was confident in knowing that God was "the source of his strength and the strength of his life." His presence will be sorely missed by his loving family and his many childhood and lifelong friends. "To God be the Glory" for blessing our lives with the joy of knowing and loving Gary!

Precious and treasured memories of Gary will be remembered by his loving, faithful and devoted mother, Alma M. Watkins; his son, Gary D. Trent Jr. and his wife, Deidra; three loving grandchildren, Rajah M. Smith, Jeremy M. Trent and Ryan C. Trent; a devoted former wife, Mary S. Venable; nine aunts, three loving and devoted, Edna E. French, Jennie V. Coker and Deacon Carlene Coleman-Boisseau; six uncles, one loving and devoted, Howard H. Boisseau Sr.; and many loving, faithful and devoted cousins, namely Edith M. Smith, H. Bertram "Bert" Boisseau, Geraldine S. Johnson; and numerous neighbors and friends.

A celebration of Gary's life will be held will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at the First Baptist Church Centralia, 2920 Kingsdale Road, Richmond, Va.; the Rev. Dr. Wilson E.B. Shannon, Pastor. The interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, Va.

The immediate family members are asked to assemble at the residence at 1 p.m. on the day of the service.

All funeral participants are asked to assemble at the church at 1:30 p.m. The remains will lie in repose from noon until the hour of service.

The family will also receive friends at 4000 Thurston Road, Richmond, Va., and may be contacted by calling 804-271-4353.
