George Branch Obituary
He was the son of the late Robert and Willie Jane Branch. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertha Branch; parents, Robert and Willie Jane Branch and nine siblings.
He was born and raised in Chesterfield County, Va. He was a faithful member of Union Grove Baptist Church and a member of the Golden Circle. George was a farmer, butcher and barber by trade and he also held an office with the Department of Agriculture as a County Committee Advisor for Chesterfield County for many years before his declining health. He never met a stranger. He and his wife taught and educated a lot of the neighborhood kids with the fact that hard work will pay off in the long run. He leaves a legacy that will remembered by many for years to come.
He leaves to cherish his memories, six children, George H. Branch Jr. (Francis), Candis R. Watkins (Harry), Juel R. Branch Sr., William H. Branch Sr., Bruce H. Branch (Caroline) and Juanita Branch, all of Petersburg, Va.; 23 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Branch (Amanda) of Long Island, N.Y.; five sisters-in-law, Helen Hilliard, Ruth Lee, Mable Johnson and Dorothy Branch, all of Petersburg, Va., and Sadie Couch of Alta Vista, Va.; one brother-in-law, Garfield Lee of Petersburg, Va.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; a niece that he raised as his own, Loretha Baugh (Gerald) and an adopted son, Russell Harris (Rosetta). Among the friends are Alexander and Mozelle Mason, Curtis Foster and Alease Maitland.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at Zion Apostolic Christian Memorial Temple, 1601 Youngs Road, Petersburg, Va., Bishop Samuel Wright Sr., pastor. Interment to follow at the Branch Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence and may be contacted by calling (804) 590-1397.

Sometimes things happen that we just don't understand, but we all must remember that it's all part of God's perfect plan. Sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Branch. He has been a respected man in the Chesterfield community. My fondest memory is when he would butcher the pigs and my Mom (Clara Cates) would be there to get the chitterlins! Hey that was good eatin' but I sure hated the clean up! Much respect and my condolences to the entire family especially to Bruce.
