The silent voice of God whispered and summoned to our love one, Mr. George Winfield, affectionately known as "son" of 19146 Jerusalem Plank Road, Courtland, on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013.

He was a native and longtime resident of Sussex County, born on Dec. 17, 1924, to the late Elijah and Louise Winfield. He attended school in Sussex County and served in the United States Army. He served his country honorably and was discharged on Feb. 26, 1948. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Pleasant Grove Christian Church, now known as Mt. Moriah United Church of Christ Church. He loved his church and served as a trustee until his health failed. He was full of life, with an outspoken personality and always giving a helping hand to anyone. Once you met him you never forgot him.
He was preceded in death by: his father and mother; three sisters, Eva Mae, Erma and Celestine; three brothers, Jerry, Johnnie, and Charles; one daughter, Delores; and a stepson, Bo.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 45 years, Joyce; one devoted sister, Hazel; a devoted brother-in-law, William; two sons, George Jr. and Teddy; one daughter, Brenda; three daughters-in-law, Marlene, Ann, and Pam; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Earnell and Josephine; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; friends; and devoted neighbors to include, Barry, Kenny, Carolyn, Bell's daughters, Emma and Nita and many other special friends.
Services for Mr. George Winfield will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at Mt. Moriah United Church of Christ, 12499 Old Forty Road, Waverly, the Rev. Shelton H. Smith, pastor, eulogist. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
Viewing for Mr. Winfield will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013 at the funeral establishment.
The family will receive friends at 19146 Jerusalem Plank Road, Courtland.
