Gertrude Virginia Faltz Bolden, 88, was born on May 18, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Johnny Faltz and Violet Gray Faltz. Her life ended peacefully at home on June 27, 2013, after a long illness. She is preceded in death by: her husband, Jesse W. Bolden; five brothers; and one sister.

She leaves to cherish her memory: four daughters, Leathia Carroll (Junius) of Windsor, Dorothy White of Owensboro, Ky., Mary Iola Brown (Willie Joe) of Sedley, Barbara Jean Morgan (Larry) of Petersburg; two sons, Jesse LeRoi Bolden of Petersburg, and William Cliff Bolden of Suffolk; two brothers, Lawrence Faltz (Katherine) of Wakefield, and Alton Faltz (Barbara) of Newark, N.J.; a sister, Mary Magdalene Stringfield (James) of Wakefield; 10 grandchildren; 28 stepgrandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 15 stepgreat-grandchildren; other relatives; and friends.

Virginia joined Union Hill United Church of Christ at an early age. She moved to Pittsburgh, where she raised her family, attended nursing school and worked at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Once her health began to fail, she moved to Windsor with her daughter, Leathia. Virginia loved her family truly and remained faithful to her church and attended services as long as her health allowed.

A wake will be held Monday, July 1, 2013, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Crocket Funeral Home in Suffolk. A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Union Hill United Church of Christ, in Sedley. Mrs. Bolden will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday for viewing. Family and friends will assemble on Tuesday at the home of Leathia Carroll at 11 a.m. for the processional to the church. Professional services have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home Inc.
