Guy Claiborne Obituary

Mr. Guy Juner Claiborne, 82, of 135 Bryan Ave. Wakefield, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009.

He was born on Dec. 7, 1927, to the late Guy and Lula Claiborne. He received Christ at an early age and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Wakefield, where he served faithfully as a trustee and sang with the male chorus. He retired from Smithfield Packing Company after 26 years of service. Mr. Claiborne loved baseball and could always be found sitting at the town 7-Eleven store. He was loved and will be greatly missed by many. He is preceded in death by his parents, and 12 siblings; Henry Davis Claiborne, John Claiborne, Purcell Claiborne, Joseph Claiborne, Roosevelt Claiborne, James Claiborne, Frank Claiborne, Jonah Claiborne, Mary Parham, Gracie Brock, Viola Sanders, and Lula Mae Claiborne.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving wife of 59 years, Sarah Young Claiborne; three sons, Robert Donzell Claiborne (Naomi) of Petersburg, Guy Curtis Claiborne (Debra) of Midlothian, and Carl Lee Claiborne (Angela) of Prince George; one brother, Robert Lynn Claiborne (Barbara) of Waverly; three brothers-in-law, George W. Young (Joyce) of York, Ernest Lee Young (Daisy) of Baltimore, Md., and Gurley Young Jr. of Washington, D.C.; one sister-in-law, Donna Mae Davis (Willie) of Randallstown, Md.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank the Southampton Memorial Hospice, Cynthia Claiborne and Mary Alice Bailey for the care they gave Mr. Claiborne during his illness.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 1 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Wakefield. The Rev. Leslie Holloway, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Claiborne Family Cemetery, Dendron. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the residence at 11:45 a.m. the day of the service. Remains will rest at the church one hour prior to the service. A viewing will be held Friday, Dec. 11 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral arrangements are being provided by the staff of J.L.
