Hardy Barricks Traylor, 71, of Hopewell, died from complications due to cancer on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Hospice of Virginia's In-Patient Care Wing.

He received his undergraduate degree from the East Carolina University and obtained his Virginia law license by reading the law with Allen and Allen. Mr. Traylor was a founding member of Traylor, Morris & Elliott Law Firm, made contributions to the opening of the Chester YMCA, and was a founding member of the Henricus Historical Park Foundation (treasurer).

He was preceded in death by: his father, Thomas Traylor, and mother, Alice Traylor.

He is survived by: his wife, Susan Johnson Traylor; his son, Richard Traylor, and his partner, Michael Guajardo, of Chesterfield; son, James Traylor of Hopewell; one daughter, Elizabeth Howard, and her husband, Jeff Howard of Lantana, Texas; and two grandsons, Seth and Heath Howard, of Lantana, Texas. He is also survived by a sister and her husband, Susan and George Stone of Hopewell; and a brother and his wife, T.R. and Joyce Traylor, of Chesterfield. Numerous nephews and nieces survive him from Virginia.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at St. Marks Church at 520 N. Boulevard, Richmond. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall immediately following the service. Burial service will be private.
