Mr. Harry "Baby Dump" Hansard Jr. formerly of 1109 Sixth St., departed this life late Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg.

Harry was the son of Viola and Harry Hansard Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joseph "Skeeter" Smith.

He joined Bethany Baptist Church at an early age. He was mild-mannered and loved to be around people, and his animals especially his kitten, "Pudding" and his cat, "Smokie." He enjoyed old movies, the Andy Griffith Show, westerns, the news, sports, Jeopardy, and Harry knew his Bible. Harry was an avid Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Boston Red Soxs fan.

Harry attended Peabody High School, however after years of working odd jobs, he moved to Michigan where he worked in the apple orchards and later relocating to Florida to work in the orange groves. After 30 years, Harry retired from and returned back to Petersburg, to be with his family and his beloved Blandford community.

Harry is survived by: his wife, Mary Hansard; his devoted children, Rita Hansard (Brock), Paula Jones and Gary Hansard; grandchildren, April, Erica, DaVon, Rashawn, and Destini; great-grandchildren, Jaelin, Karmaya, Karliya, Damari, and Javien; long-time companion, Olivia Hood; uncle, James Smith, sister-in-law, Crystal Alexander; brothers-in-law, John Alexander, Randolph Alexander and Christopher Alexander; special friends, Kim Novak and Thomas L. Wilson; life-time friends and family members, Freddy Morris, Larry Jones, Marion Jones, Curtis Smith, Horace Brown, Ferdene Burrows, Danny Stith, Otis Turner, John Taylor, Hosea Holcomb, Ira, the Hood, McKeever and Flemmings family; and the entire Blandford community; and a host of cousins; other relatives; and friends.

Special thanks goes out to the staff of John Randolph and Southside Regional Medical Center, Meals on Wheels, We Care and Dr. Ghandi and staff at Southside Cancer Center.

Services for Mr. Harry Hansard Jr. will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, the Rev. Merle Keene, eulogist. Interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
