Ms. Helen Virginia Spencer, 78, of 2403 Waverly St., Hopewell, departed this life Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at John Randolph Medical Center.

She was a native of Charlotte Courthouse, Va., where she attended Charlotte County public schools.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. George and Mattie Reed; 14 siblings, Archer, Eddie, McKinley, Anna Belle, Janie, George, Frank, Waverly, Willie Wilson, Mattie, Ida, Rose, Lottie and Geraldine.
Helen was baptized as a Baptist in her early age, and was a great homemaker to her family. She loved her family and was very much devoted to the caring of her grandchildren. Her warm smile brought much joy to the neighborhood.
She is survived by: two loving daughters, Dorothy Williams (James) of Disputanta and Geraldine Henderson, of Hopewell; three grandchildren, Tiara Henderson, Edward Donnell Williams and Tamara Lyles; one brother, Hoover Reed, of Charlotte Courthouse, Va.; one sister-in-law, Arlene Reed of Philadelphia; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Hopewell. The Rev. William Roberts, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Mount Siani Community Cemetery, Prince George.
