Mr. Herbert Lee Lewis, affectionately known as "Herb" or "BaldyBean," age 62, of 12517 Banner Way, Apt. 201, Chester, entered into eternal rest and peace Saturday, Aug. 30, at his residence.

Mr. Lewis was born Oct. 18, 1951, the oldest child of the late Nell G. Haskins and Herbert Thomas, of Petersburg, Va. He was married to Diane Scott and from this union, four boys were born.

Herbert was the owner of Lewis and Associates Auto Sales, McKenney, Va., and had a deep passion for bowling. He was introduced to the sport by the Rev. William "Billy" Roberts and the rest was history. A natural born athlete, he was well known in the Tri-City area, as well as the entire East Coast, for his bowling achievements. His crowning achievement was an 877 set bowled at Oaklawn Bowl, Hopewell, Va. He traveled from tournament to tournament with his fiancée, Pam, and buddies, Bubba Parker, Milton Jones and Frank Graves. Another special friend, James Mason, belonged to the bowling leagues with him and would visit him often during his illness.

In his "younger years," he ruled the basketball court with his accuracy for shooting and running. He also loved baseball.

He treated everyone with respect and expected the same in return.

A brother, Rickey Lewis, and a sister, Patricia Lewis, preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish in his memories; four sons, Gerald, Rickey and Jermaine Lewis, all of Petersburg, and Herbert L. Lewis Jr., of Yonkers, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Kiara Lewis and Kaden Lewis, both of Dinwiddie, Va., Alexander Dunn of Chesterfield, Va., and Donovan Milton of Colonial Heights, Va.; seven siblings, Andrew Lewis (Cynthia) of Hampton, Yvonne Lewis of South Chesterfield, Clarice Lewis of Accokeek, Md., Deborah Lewis of Ettrick, William Thomas (Darlene) of Chesapeake, Richard Haskins and Joseph Haskins, both of South Chesterfield, Va; a devoted fiancée, Pamela Samuel; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends, to include one devoted cousin, James Fisher (Faye) of Macon, Ga.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, at the Chapel of the William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home. The interment will follow at the Thomas Family Cemetery, South Chesterfield.

The family will receive friends at the Chapel of the William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home, Petersburg, from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home, 137 Harrison St., Petersburg, 804-732-7841. For more information or to leave a condolence, please visit our website at Bland Enterprises Inc.
