Mr. Herman Lee Barnes, 76, of 118 N. Old Church St., Petersburg, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at the Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg.

He was born in Sussex County, but spent most of his adult life in Petersburg. He was the son of the late Eddie Barnes and Bettie E. Barnes.
Herman was preceded in death by: a brother, Eddie Barnes Jr.; and a sister, Gloria Davis.
He was formerly employed with Titmus Optical and Brinkley Produce.
Surviving are: a loving and devoted sister, Ferndine Burrow of Petersburg; a loving and devoted niece, Ardee Langford (Calvin) of Chester; two nephews, Walter and Wayne Barnes, both of Petersburg; three great-nephews, Nigel Smith of Matoaca, Keon Langford of Hopewell, Kendall Langford (Cristin) of St. Louis, Mo.; one great-niece, Chanda Langford of Chester; and a host of other relatives; and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at the chapel of William N. Bland & Son Funeral Home, 137 Harrison St., Petersburg, the Rev. Merle Keene, associate minister, Metropolitan Baptist Church, Petersburg, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery, Petersburg.
