Our hearts were saddened on Jan. 29, 2013, when our beloved mother and grandmother, Mrs. Ida J. Burgess, entered eternal rest and peace at Southside Regional Medical Center.

Ida was born in Sussex County, Va., on Nov. 19, 1925, to the late Gladys Jones and William Bates. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Pernell P. Jones, Kell Bates and John Roberts; sisters, Marie Parker and Catherine Brown; and great-grandson Ty'Quan L. Johnson.

Ida was married to the late Otis Burgess Sr. for 53 years and from that union they had 14 chilren.

She leaves to cherish her memories, nine daughters, Mary Johnson (Leon), Barbara Jackson, Gladys Graves, Gloria Spencer (Willie), Helen Shaw (Horace), Bettie Turner (John), Sandra Wooden (William), Sheron Burgess and Patricia Burgess; five sons, Otis Burgess Jr., James Burgess, Kenneth Burgess, Curtis Burgess (Azieb)and William Burgess; 31 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends of the family, Annie Parham and Ernest Turner.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Burgess will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Liberty Baptist Church, Waverly, Va., with the Rev. Karl Marshall eulogizing and Bishop Darren Gay officiating. The family will gather at the home of Patrica Burgess, Beaverdam Road, Waverly, Va. Interment will follow immediately at the Waverly Cemetery.
