Ida Harrison Obituary

Our devoted loved one, Ms. Ida Lauretta Harrison, formerly of West Petersburg, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009. She was granted eternal peace surrounded by her family at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg.

Ida Lauretta was born on Sept. 19, 1952, in Petersburg General Hospital. A native of West Petersburg in Dinwiddie County, she was currently a resident of Chesterfield County. Ida was preceded in death by her parents, James (Red) and Ida Nobia Harrison, and her granddaughter, Sherrelle Nikia Harrison.

She graduated from Dinwiddie County High Class of 1971 and attended Virginia State College. Ms. Harrison was a devoted employee of 7-Eleven for 19 years and Wal-Mart in Chester for seven years. She was a faithful and life-long member of First Baptist Church, West Petersburg.

As a loyal and committed mother, she is survived by her daughter, Joycelyn Nicole (Nikki) Harrison (Ronzelle Gregory); and grandchildren, JaQuasha Phillips, Jakei Harrison and Jamon Gregory; nine sisters, Bernice (Lucille) Thorpe of Baltimore, Doris (Rubette) Ridley (Willie) of Prince George, Sallie Baskerville (Floyd) of West Petersburg, Sandra (Kitty) McKensie (Selester) of Chester, Joice Jones (Todd) of Petersburg, Janice Harrison of Chester, Saundra Mason (Sam), Connie Jones and Beatrice Williams, all of Petersburg; three brothers, James (Monroe) Harrison and Bernard (Man) Harrison, both of West Petersburg, and Terry Harrison of Baltimore; two aunts and one uncle, Katherine Harrison of West Petersburg, Nancy Spearman of Emporia and Norman Claiborne (Catherine) of Richmond; her two godchildren, Angela Hinton of West Petersburg and Joseph Reese Jr. of Dinwiddie; a host of dedicated nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-niece, great-great-nephews, cousins and a devoted sister-in-law, Francis Taylor of West Petersburg, a large extended community and church family including the Baskerville family, most notably Arthur (Genie) Baskerville, numerous friends and Wal-Mart co-workers that shared her life.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at First Baptist Church West Petersburg, 25702 Greensville Ave., West Petersburg, VA 23803. The Rev. Peter Jeffries, pastor, will officiate and the Rev. Janet Flowers will deliver the eulogy. Interment will be in Dinwiddie Memorial Park.

Family members are asked to assemble at the residence of Sally Baskerville, 25719 Dinwiddie Ave., West Petersburg, Va., at 1 p.m. on the day of the service.The family may be contacted at (804) 732-3129 or (804) 796-4879. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the staff of William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home, Petersburg.

I was deeply saddened to hear about Lauretta's passing. We would always great each other at Walmart with a smile and a hug. She was a favorite person of my late father. She will forever be in my heart.

I have known Ida since I was in 8th grade and she worked at 7-11, and I am now 41. I am so glad that my 10 year old daughter has gotten to know her over the last several years. She has brought so much joy to everyone and she will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family.
