Jackson Rollins Obituary

Jackson J. Rollins Jr. age 86, went to be with his Lord at his home in Prince George County, Va., Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010.

Born in Smithfield on July 4, 1923, he was the son of the late Jackson J. Rollins Sr. and Madeline Atkins Rollins. Mr. Rollins retired in 1980 after 30 years employment with HerculesInc. in Hopewell. He was a member of Claremont Baptist Church. Mr. Rollins was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving proudly in the European Theatre during World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Lucille Toney Rollins; a daughter, Jeanne Cofer and her husband, Rea, of Prince George; sons, James Rollins of South Carolina, William Rollins and his wife, Gale, of Alaska, and Jerry Lee Rollins and his wife, Sandi, of South Dakota; sisters, Betty R. Myza of Texas, Sally Ruth Taylor of Prince George and Rachael R. Joyce of Hopewell; a brother, Charles Leonard Rollins of Claremont; six grandchildren, Jack, Jimmy, Trip, Kim, Karen and Krystal; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn R. Weather, and a great-grandson, Jerry Neal Rollins.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at the Purviance Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Wakefield. Burial with military honors will follow in the Wakefield Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 on Friday evening.
