James Davis Obituary

James Arthur Davis (Buddie) 202 S. South St., Petersburg, departed this life Monday evening, Aug. 30, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg.

He was born May 13, 1932, to the late Rev. Joe Nathan and Nancy Williams Davis of North Carolina. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church where he served as a trustee. He worked at Central State Hospital many years before working at Allied Chemical (Honeywell). He was also a cab driver for Boulevard Cab. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Mary Virginia Davis; a son Fred Davis; three brothers, John, Wallace and Wilson Davis; and a sister, Josephine Davis; a niece, Diane Garner.

Surviving are: an adopted son and nephew, William Garner of Petersburg; a grandson, Keith Davis; a daughter-in-law, Vivian Davis; a brother, Marion Davis of Boston; two sisters, Louverdis Garner of Petersburg and Bettie Mae Motley of Pleasant Hill, N.C.; an aunt Mittie Shoulders of Rich Square, N.C.; several nieces, nephews, cousins, among them very devoted Naomi Pair, and Sharon Davis Marshall, Jacqueline Diggs, and Franchester Blowe and Melvin and Ricky Garner; a brother-in-law, Johnell Crocker of Durham, N.C.; and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Unity Baptist Church, Petersburg. Dr. A.L. Toney, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Dinwiddie Memorial Park.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the staff of William N. Bland & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg.

I rode in cabs with the boulevard cab company for years and for the last two years that I rode, Mr. Davis was my driver. He was such a nice gentleman and a joy to be around. I will certainly miss him but I know that heaven know has an angel.
