James Perkins Obituary

Sept. 20, 1928-Oct. 2, 2010

James Clyde Perkins Jr. went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Oct. 2, 2010, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Petersburg, Va., he was the son of the late James Clyde Sr. and Ella Spain Perkins.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, and a graduate of Lynchburg College and Virginia Commonwealth University. He was retired from the U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., where he was a human factors engineer.

He enjoyed fishing, golf, building and refinishing furniture, and growing azaleas. Most of all, he loved his God and his family.

He is survived by his wife, Alma Givers Perkins; his son, Jay Perkins (Terry) of Maryland; and daughter, Kathryn Pitrat (Tony) of Maryland; and his sister, Elaine Ruxton (Charles), Colonial Heights, Va.; granddaughters, Lauren Marie Perkins, Lindsay Anne Perkins, Grace Zilu Pitrat, Amelia Renee Pitrat; and stepgranddaughters, Megan Sypolt, Kara Sypolt, Laura Sypolt; and a niece and several nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at First United Methodist Church, Myrtle Beach, S.C., with visitation and reception following. The Rev. Jonathan Tompkins will officiate.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial gifts be made to First United Methodist Church in Myrtle Beach or the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.

The family would like to express a very special "thank you" to Hospice Care of South Carolina, especially to Karen, Ruth, Linda and Windy for their love, compassion and support.
