James E. Flowers Sr.

Mr. James Edward Flowers Sr., 85, of 854 Nance Drive, Petersburg, was called home to take his walk with God Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg.

He was born Aug. 2, 1925, to the late Christopher Flowers and Daisy Glands Flowers. He was a member of the Saint Rest Baptist Church, in Louisiana. Mr. Flowers was preceded in death by a son, James Flowers Jr.; two sisters, Essie Mae Flowers, and Eva Flowers Powell.

Mr. Flowers was honorably discharged as master sergeant from the U.S. Army on Jan. 22, 1952. He was also retired from Firestone, in Hopewell, Va. And was a very devoted employee of Bland's Funeral Home for many years.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Bessie Randolph Flowers; one daughter. Beverly Randolph-Meeks (Errol), of Oakland, California; one granddaughter, Jenee Williams of Hayward of California; brothers and sisters-in-law, W. Reginald Randolph (Frieda) of Bronx, New York, Winnie Randolph, Forest Randolph Heath, The Honorable Rosalyn Randolph Dance (Nathaniel), Linda Haskins (Melvin), Karen Booker Moss, Samuel Thomas Randolph, Terrell Smith, Voncellia Smith, and Reginald Smith all of Petersburg, Deborah Grandison (Joseph) of Dinwiddie, Susan Randolph Gordon (Courtney) of Milford, Ohio; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at the Chapel of William N. Bland & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg. Rev. William N. Bland Jr., pastor of Metropolitan Baptist Church, Petersburg will officiate. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends at the residence and can be contacted at 733-6654.
