James Allen Obituary

Mr. James Jerome "JJ" Allen Sr., 61, of 1905 Stewart Ave., Hopewell, departed this life on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at the residence of his daughter.

He was born to the late James F. Allen and Roseanna Diggs.

Also preceding him in death is grandmother, Nanny Diggs; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Allen; and sister, Charlotte Turnquist.

Mr. Allen was a 1968 graduate from Carver High School in Chester, Va. After graduation, he was a faithful employee at Dupont for 40 years.

Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife, Mrs. Hattie Allen; two devoted and loving children, Lil Allen and James Allen Jr.; three granddaughters, Tranise Allen, Brianna Maurice and Kenyetta Branch, of Richmond; stepmother, Mrs. Annie Allen; five sisters, Mrs. Judy Jones, Mrs. Phyllis Butler, Charlotte, Faye and Dyeyanji Turnquist; six brothers, Mr. Sylvester Allen (Janice), Mr. Carlton Allen (LaVivian), Lance, Xavier, Hazel, Butch Turnquist; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Annie Ragsdale and Mrs. Louise Waller (Carrol), of Colonial Heights; brother-in-law, Mr. Lee Brooks (Wilma) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011 at the Chapel of William N. Band & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg. The Rev. William N. Bland Jr., pastor of Metropolitan Baptist Church, Petersburg, will officiate. Interment will follow at Bermuda Memorial Park, Chester. However, Mr. Allen may be viewed at Turner-Bland Funeral Home, Hopewell all day Tuesday. The family will assemble at the Petersburg chapel 11:30 a.m. on the day of service and may be contacted at 804-253-5777.

Lil you have our deepest sympathy,I rememmber my dad calling him Dr.J. PJ is goung to miss him whenever he came to Hopewell, he would always stop by with a book on racing or parts for his old car, and with plenty of jokies.
