On Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, God saw it fit to call Deacon James R. Hunt, of 1609 Carrington St., Petersburg, home.

James was born to Ruth and Henry Hunt Jr. on Oct. 18, 1947. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Hunt Jr., and sister, Leathy Lyons.
He was a graduate of Petersburg High School. James was a faithful member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church, having served on the Deacon and Usher boards.
He worked at Food Lion as a truck driver until his retirement.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a devoted wife of 20 years Gertrude Hunt; three sons, Keenan Jackson, Leander Jackson and Karl Jackson, all of Petersburg, Va; four daughters, Jennifer Reid (Jerome) of Chesterfield, Va., Eileen Jackson, Cassandra Ward (Timothy) and Pearl Jackson, all of Petersburg, Va.; three brothers, Samuel Hunt (Sandra), Henry Lee Hunt, both of Dinwiddie, Va., and Claiborne Hunt of Petersburg, Va; two sisters, Lillie Winfield (John) of Petersburg, Christine Haskins (Leroy) of Chesterfield, Va.; two aunts, Frances Gilliam, of Washington, D.C., and Caroline Holmes of Dinwiddie, Va.; 17 grandchildren, among them Justin Hunt and Juwan Reid; six great-grandchildren; host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held noon Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at Mount Olivet Baptist Church, 800 Augusta Ave., Petersburg. The Rev. Dr. Wesley K. McLaughlin, pastor, will officiate. The interment will follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble 11 a.m. at the residence on day of service.
