On Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, God called home one of his angels, Mr. Jamil Quante Artis, 21, of Sussex County, Va. He was born on Sept. 3, 1992, in Petersburg, Va., to Ivonda Moore and Zac Artis. He received his formal education in the Sussex County school system and graduated from Sussex Central High School in 2010. Jamil enjoyed spending time with his brothers and watching his favorite football team — the Oakland Raiders.

Jamil was preceded in death by his fraternal grandparents, Alexander Jr. and Edith Artis; maternal great- grandparents, John R. and Laura E.J. Moore.

He leaves to cherish precious memories of him: his loving and devoted mother, Ms. Ivonda Moore; father, Zac Artis; four brothers, two devoted brothers, Nicholas Moore and Darius Moore of Sussex County, Va., Zachari Artis and Tajavon Chambliss; sister, Brandi Mason; loving grandparents, Noreen Harper (Stanley); grandfather, Randolph Parham; great-grandmother, Edith Parham; aunts, Mary Artis and Valarie Hargrove; uncles, Deon Parham, Randy Parham and Tony Parham; great-aunts, Edna Harris (Osborne), Yvonne Walker (Lawrence), Lucy Walker (Willie), Linda Smith, Corliss Neaves, Ellena Hicks (Ronald) and Annie Croom (George); great-uncles, John Moore (Annie), Joseph Harper (Carrie), Franklin Harper (Lucy), Melvin Harper (Sandra) and George Harper; two great-great-aunts and three great-great-great-uncles; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at the residence of his grandparents, Stanley and Noreen Harper, 15514 Concord Sappony Road, Stony Creek, Va., and will assemble there at 11:15 a.m. on the morning of the service for the procession.

A funeral service for Mr. Jamil Q. Artis of Sussex County, Va., will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at the First Baptist Church, Jarratt, Va., the Rev. George R. Mayes, pastor. The Rev. Antonel Myler will be officiating.
