Jesse Warren Obituary

Mr. Jesse J. Warren, 69, of 664 Flynn Lane, Petersburg, Va., peacefully entered into eternal rest Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va.. He was born Dec. 27, 1940, in Hopewell, Va., to the late Lilton and Essie Mae Warren.

Jesse received his education in the Hopewell Public Schools and was a graduate of Hopewell High School Class of 1958. After graduation, he served in the United States Army for three years. He retired from Brown and Williamson Tobacco Corp., where he dedicated 23 years of service. After retirement, he was employed at Poplar Springs Hospital for 15 years and also Prince George County School System. Jesse faithfully followed Christ through his membership at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Hopewell, Va., where he was a dedicated member of the Usher Ministry. He was a member of the Elks Sunlight Lodge No. 1558 in Hopewell, Va., and also a member of the Masonic Order. Jesse loved life and he touched the lives of many; he was a caring and devoted husband, father and friend.

He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife of 39 years, Barbara; three sons, Darrell Warren (Celena) and Damian Warren, both of Petersburg, and Travis Warren (Letitia) of Prince George, Va.; two daughters, Jewell Kearney (Jeffery) of Petersburg and Bernetta Quinn (Veonis) of Matoaca, Va.; a brother, Allen Warren (Rebecca) of New Jersey; two sisters, Lillie Mae Harris of Virginia Beach, Va., and Diane Gardner (Pernell) of Petersburg, Va.; an uncle, Robert Lee Jones of Stony Creek, Va.; an aunt, Claretta "Deana" Taylor; sisters-in-law, Terry Wiggins (Spencer) of Woodbridge, Va., and Melba Banks (the late Barry) of Virginia Beach, Va.; brothers-in-law, Ira "Peanut" Woodley (Karen) of Prince George, Va., David Woodley (Sonya) of Pearland, Texas, and Lloyd "Mac" Banks of Petersburg, Va.; six grandchildren; devoted friends, Joyce R. Mason and Joan Spratley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009 at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 2223 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Jeffrey L. Reaves Sr., senior pastor, and the Rev. William H. Roberts Jr., pastor of Mt. Camel Baptist Church, Hopewell, officiating. Interment to follow at Southlawn Memorial Park.

Honorary and active pallbearers are asked to assemble 10:30 a.m. at the church.
