Jessie Anderson was educated through the Prince George Public School System and later moved to Petersburg, where she met and married the late George "Tosie" Anderson, to this union were born six children.
Mrs. Anderson was among the first licensed practical nursing class of Petersburg General Hospital, and served as chaplain for her class. After a brief career there, she accepted a position at Central State Hospital where she worked and advanced until retirement.
She enjoyed her retirement years by serving God in her church and spending time with her children.
While in Petersburg, she was a devoted member of the Shiloh Seventh-Day Adventist Church where she faithfully served as head deaconess, one of the counselors of the Pathfinder Club and primary Sabbath school teacher. In her role of community service leader, she and other church members diligently collected food and clothing to distribute to the less fortunate of the city.
Jessie's health declined in later years, and she moved to live with her children in Indiana, Virginia, and Maryland.
She leaves to treasure her loving memory: children, Yvonne E. Simmons of Clinton, Md., Francyne Anderson Sawyer of Forestville, Md. (Andy), George (Ricky) Anderson (Sandra) of Chesapeake, Fay Burrs (Damien) of Largo, Md., Kwabena Agyeman of Petersburg, and Karl Anderson (Deirdre) of Woodbridge; brother-in-law Herbert, Anderson (Obena) of Sutherland, and sister-in-law, Helen Anderson of Petersburg, grandchildren, Shermaine Hall (Torrey); Robert Humphrey III, (Wendy), Yasmine Toye, (Richard), Jamar Burrs, DeAnna Burrs, Saran Anderson, Aki Sawyer, Sean Hurd-Campbell, Zaniya Sample-Anderson and Quincy Anderson; great-grandchildren, Robert Humphrey IV, DeVonte Humphrey, and Halley Anderson.
She was blessed with a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; and special friends.
She will also be lovingly remembered by a host of dedicated friends and prayers partners who were a part of her daily life.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at 12 p.m. at the Shiloh Seventh-
